Apprentice to the Villain was such a fun read! I gave it a solid four out of five stars and I can’t wait for the third book in the series (which comes out later this year!). Similar to the first book, Assistant to the Villain, the sequel follows Evie Sage and The Villain and their ever evolving relationship.
Apprentice to the Villain involved Evie and The Villain going on a few different quests and getting into some silly and dangerous shenanigans. I was all about it. I love seeing Evie’s character develop! She’s becoming stronger and more of a badass with every book and every page and I love that for our FMC. The Villain, of course, is brooding and tries to put on an act of nonchalance but really he cares so deeply and is so layered (like an onion), I’m obsessed.
One aspect of the book that I really enjoyed was the found family dynamic between the characters. This book really tested our group of characters and it was nice to see them lean on each other during difficult times. The romance is another favorite of mine. Of course I love adventure and action, but I’m a romantic at heart and the tension between Evie and The Villain could be cut with a knife. I wasn’t really sure if I was a fan of slow burn romance but this series has showed me that I am a fan, a pretty big one if I do say so myself. Yes, I enjoy spice and love declarations galore, but there is something about waiting several chapters just for the lovers hands to touch *swoon*. I become a puddle on the floor for good pining and yearning, and this book delivered what I needed it to deliver.
I will admit some parts in the middle of the book did drag a little but overall, I am so happy with this sequel and I’m excited to see where and how the story continues. If your a fan of morally grey characters, badass women, slow burn romances, and found family, I would definitely recommend Assistant to the Villain and Apprentice to the Villain.
Have you started this series? If so, what did you think? Let me know your thoughts and as always, much love and happy reading friends!

bookish brownie
