Book Review: Happy Place by Emily Henry

By

Now, I want to start off by saying this is my second Emily Henry book. The first book I read by her was People We Meet on Vacation and I didn’t love that one. I felt it was okay but I wasn’t in love with the story or super invested in the characters. However, Happy Place I really enjoyed and it made me want to read even more from Ms. Emily Henry.

Though it took me a minute to get into the story, once I got into it I was very interested to find out what happens and how our main characters get together. Happy Place is a contemporary, second chance romance about Wyn and Harriet. Wyn and Harriet have been broken up for a few months but have yet to tell their friends, so when their annual, week long friend vacation comes around, they pretend to still be dating. I found the writing to be very captivating and I found myself wanting to read as much as possible to figure out what happens next.

Aside from the romance, I loved the strong focus on friendship and found family. I also really enjoyed the focus on finding what makes you happy and sticking with that as long as you can. I will say, there are time jumps between the past and present which I wasn’t as big of a fan of, it felt very similar to PWMOV, but I felt the time jumps worked better in this story and once I got used to to the format, it was fine.

Overall, I gave this book 3.75 stars. The ending really sold it for me and made me enjoy the book more than I had originally anticipated. As I said earlier, Happy Place has solidified Emily Henry as an author I want to read more from and I look forward to the stories to come! If you’re looking for a fairly quick, interesting read about love and friendship and discovering yourself and what makes you happy, I would definitely recommend Happy Place.
